The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced the recall of 5.6 million systems. These units were manufactured by Gree® and Midea® and sold under popular retail brand names such as GE, Kenmore, and Frigidaire. Hundreds of these units have reportedly caught fire and caused almost $25 million in property damages.

How Do I Know If My System Is Affected?

If you purchased a home dehumidifier between January 2005 and August 2013, your system might be affected by the recall. If yours falls into that timeframe, follow these steps to find out whether it needs to be recalled:

• Find your unit’s model number. This is usually located on a name plate sticker, either on the back, side, or front of the system.
• Check the manufacturer’s website. Using that model number, visit GreeDehumidifierRecall.com or RecallVerification.com.
• Unplug your dehumidifier immediately. If you find your system on any recall list, unplug it right away. Call the Gree Hotline at 1-866-853-2802 or the Midea Hotlines—1-800-600-3055 or 1-800-638-2772—for more information.

What Do I Do If My Dehumidifier Is Part of the Recall?

Follow the return and refund process if your unit is affected by the recall—you will be sent a return kit with next steps for sending out your system and getting your money back.
